England - North York Moors to Scarborough

The ceiling of this Rievaulx Temple is covered with frescoes of mythological scenes. They were done by the Italian painter Giuseppe Mattia Borgnis, who came to England around 1753. The murals were painted on freshly laid lime plaster.
